Why GPS denial is the design constraint, not an edge case

Satellite navigation is the first thing a peer adversary takes away, and it goes early. Treating GNSS denial as a degraded mode you fall back into gets you a system that works on the range and fails in the fight. Designing for its absence from the first sketch changes more than the software - it changes sensor placement, the shape of the nose, the power budget, and how much compute you carry. This is what visual navigation actually costs at the airframe level, and why we pay it on every system in the line rather than the expensive ones.

Designing for low-specialization labor means giving up manufacturing elegance. You accept more fasteners, looser tolerances in places an aerospace engineer will flinch at, and a parts count you would not choose if a trained technician were guaranteed. In exchange you get an airframe that can be assembled in a converted warehouse in an allied country by people trained in a fortnight. Building turbines in-house when you could just buy them

Propulsion is the single-source dependency that stops most strike programs. Engine lead times do not care about your production ramp, and an export licence on someone else’s turbine becomes your export licence. We took the harder path deliberately: the TJ-100 and TJ-40 are ours, qualified on our timeline, second-sourced across two cells. This is what that decision cost and what it bought.
